Job Title : Food Safety and Security Auditor
Department: Food Safety
Supervisor: President and CEO
Description of Job Functions:
Conducts food safety and security audits in customers facility at scheduled times.
Provides practical and technical training to customer regarding the documentation of the adequacy of the food safety program, integrated pest management, pest control, operational issues, personnel practices, maintenance for food safety, and cleaning practices
Communicates to management and appropriate staff verbally and in written form on the rating and level of the food safety program before leaving the facility.
Prepares a written report, card, and expense report for the work completed on a daily basis. Corrective actions and suggestions are to be included in the report. This report, card, and expense report are to be emailed to the home office for their review within 2 days. The customer is to receive a written copy of the rating and recap before the auditor leaves the premises. The food safety auditor must be ready, willing, and capable of extensive travel.
Principal Responsibilities:
Organize the inspection itineraries for the year on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis as necessary to accommodate new business, postponements, training, etc. Notify clients of inspections if required preferably with a months notice. Travel to the inspection site in a cost savings manner and arrange to stay in the client's work area during the inspection if required. Conduct the food safety audits using the applicable food safety standards. Train personnel in food safety issues, write a report following the audit and have it in the home office within 2 working days.
Fill out expense vouchers for each client. Email and mail to Food Safety International, Inc. with the appropriate documentation.
Additional Activities:
Participate or conduct training seminars, lectures, and participate in food safety conferences and/or in plant seminars on an as needed basis.
Principal Customers:
Food processors, food distributors, food packaging facilities, food retail establishments, and manufacturing suppliers.
Qualifications required:
Education: BS or BBA degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in or related to food safety or; High school diploma, or equivalent, plus 6-12 years food plant experience. Experience: 6-12 years of food plant experience in a responsible position related to food safety.
Administration Skills:
Must possess excellent communication skills, good writing and typing skills, including correct grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. Must be able to use a laptop computer with effective communication skills with Food Safety International, Inc. office using email and the internet. Be able to organize your travel itineraries, make travel arrangements, travel to inspection sites, be able to work independently of direct office supervision and file all reports, requests for information and expense vouchers in a timely and efficient manner.
Physical Skills:
Must be physically able to safely ascend to heights, descend to depths underground, be able to bend, crawl, and move safely and freely around machinery and building without assistance. Must have eyesight or corrected eyesight to safely work around and inspect equipment, identify insect and rodent pests, be able to prepare inspection notes and reports without assistance.
Other requirements:
The food safety auditor must conduct themselves in a professional manner including appearance and demeanor, at all times. The food safety auditor must carry out all inspection assignments from Food Safety International, Inc. and follow all written and verbal instructions from the Department of Food Safety and Security at Food Safety International, Inc.
The food safety auditor must abide by all GMP's when inspecting or in the customer's facility.
The food safety auditor must maintain a valid and current drivers license, maintain current automobile insurance, and maintain a personal vehicle for business use. The food safety auditor must maintain fiscal responsibility that will enable the auditor to travel, work, and be away from home in the course of the Food Safety International, Inc. business.
